Project CATCH Tutors

 

Hours: Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 10:55-12:05 pm. 

Grade Level: 6th Grade cohort at Green Acres Middle School 

Purpose of Position: Tutors provide academic support in the areas of math and English language arts for middle and high school students. During assigned shifts, tutors will offer guidance to students regarding study skills, clarity of concepts, and understanding of classroom content. 

Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate academic competence in the subject areas (Math & English) and the ability to work coherently with the curriculum established by the school/teacher;

• Work one-on-one or in small groups with middle and/or high school students to provide them with academic tutoring to improve their understanding of Math and English using various teaching strategies to tutor;

• Maintain a growth mindset toward student learning and teaching practice; actively engage students by asking questions that will facilitate their understanding;

• Keep accurate records of student progress;

• Attend mandatory training from EmpowerEd Birmingham;

• Arrive on time for scheduled shifts and be willing to provide advance notice for time off requests except for emergencies;

• Communicate with EmpowerEd’s director and the program coordinator to ensure program needs are being met and demonstrated through student performance;

• To be responsible for your own welfare by following the Health, Safety and Environmental Policy and other related policies such as Equality, Prevention of Harassment, and Data Protection

Qualifications:

• Proven work experience as a Tutor or similar role;

• Demonstrates patience, flexibility, reliability, and positivity and cooperative with a sense of humor;

• Ability to take supervision and correction constructively;

• Ability to positively supervise students;

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills;

• Bi-lingual tutors preferred but is not a requirement

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred (PLEASE NOTE: college students pursuing degrees in Education and experienced and/ or retired educators will have first priority in the hiring process)

Compensation

Hourly, $30 – $35 dollars per hour, based on experience.
