We want to build a movement – to bring together people from the community who care about improving education for our young people. We all know how important it is but unless we come together we won’t be able to make the change we all want to see.

We created the Education Bluebrint by hosting House Meetings where we learned about the educational experiences of the students, educators, and families in our communities. We learned a lot from these House Meetings, they helped us put together Blueprint Design Teams. These teams followed a Research-Action process to come up with the ideas that you can see in our Blueprint.

House Meetings

House Meetings are small group meetings that can happen anywhere. A great one brings people together to meet, connect and plan. House meetings have always been a basic foundation of organizing in America – from workers gathering outside of their workplace to unionize, to community members meeting in homes and churches during the Civil Rights movement. House meetings are a proven and effective way to create a larger movement. And we need a movement today!

We asked anyone who wanted to be part of helping to improve education for students in Birmingham and believe that things can be done differently to host or attend a House Meeting. Below you can see our House Meeting guides – the quick guide for shorter meetings or the toolkit for the groups who really wanted to dig in. You can also see the map of where these House Meetings took place!

We value the time and energy it takes to host a House Meeting, and want to recognize the work you’re doing to mobilize the community around improving educational outcomes. As a token of our appreciation, when hosts submit a Host Reflection Form, you will receive a $100 e-gift card to subsidize the cost of food/refreshments or to help cover child care.
